Quality latch for small width gate October 8, 2007

This latch is too small for my gate. The thumb latch extends only 1 3/4" into the opening so from the inside you have only a small stub of metal to open the gate. I built the gate with 2x4" studs and 1/2" thick planks so if your gate is smaller thickness than this it might work. I like the style of it and don't want to deal with sending it back so I will install a big black knob on the end of the inside latch to give me something bigger to grab onto to open the gate. I would suggest if you have a standard thickness gate ( 2x4 frame with 1/2 planks nailed to it) you try another latch kit with a big long extension from the thumb latch. I have seen several other kits available from the links on this site that I am going to try for another project. I will post a note to let you know how that works out.
